We wanted to see the full potential of the good old reliable 10G network combined with a modern CPU. The CCR2116-12G-4S+ lets you forget about CPU limitations in your setup. Like its little brother, the amazing CCR2004, this router features the powerful Alpine CPU from Amazon Annapurna Labs.
But with 16 cores running at 2 GHz, this CCR blows the other one out of the water. For example, we see at least a 15% increase in single-core performance. And that's the most important aspect when it comes to heavy, connection-based processing operations, like queues. The CCR2116-12G-4S+ sets A new standard of single-core performance across the entire CCR product family! And it supports Layer 3 hardware offloading!
Obviously, you need the right connectivity to take advantage of this power. There are four 10G SFP+ ports. They have a dedicated full-duplex line connected to the Marvell Aldrin family switching chip. Then we have Gigabit Ethernet ports. Twelve of them are running through the Marvell chip. And there's another Gigabit port connected directly to the CPU for management purposes.
Each group of four ports has an independent, full-duplex connection to the switch chip. There are no bottlenecks here. You can expect switch-like performance in most configurations. The new generation of processors delivers amazing performance. Looking at the CCR1036, the nerve center with its 36-core CPU, the new CCR2116 can easily double the performance. 16 cores versus 36 cores. Double the performance. Or even more.
If you're a fairly large ISP dealing with dynamic routing, massive BGP, complex firewall rules, and intricate QoS configurations… this is the right device for you. It combines raw power and utility with a reliable 10G network. And yes, as with any ISP-grade device, we've included a redundant dual power supply. So you have one less thing to worry about.
CCR2116-12G-4S+: Time-tested technology, built for the future.
